Never seen an osteopath before? Good place to start.
Most people who benefit most from Osteopathy have spent months trying other things first. Here's the honest version.
What Osteopathy actually is
A system of manual medicine built on one idea: the structure of the body affects how it functions. When a joint isn't moving freely, or a movement pattern is compensating around an old injury — the body breaks down. Osteopathy identifies and corrects those problems, using the hands.
In the UK, Osteopathy is a statutory regulated profession. Osteopaths complete a four or five year Master's degree and register with the General Osteopathic Council.
What a session looks like
History
Your pain, your health, your life. The pattern tells me more than you might think.
Assessment
Active movement, passive testing, hands-on palpation. Finding where restriction is and what's compensating.
Treatment
Soft tissue, joint work, specific Osteopathic techniques. Explained throughout.
A real plan
What I found, what's causing it, how many sessions, and simple stretches to bridge between visits.
How many sessions?
Acute problems: 3–5 sessions. Long-standing issues: longer. I'll give you an honest answer at the first appointment.
If Osteopathy isn't right for you, I'll tell you — and point you to who can help.
whole-body
Hips for knees. Thoracic for back. Neck for headaches.
area-focused
Exercises led from the painful site.
significant each session
Manual treatment is the primary tool.
variable
Often exercise-led, less manual contact.
40 minutes
Enough to assess and treat properly.
20–30 min
Insurance-driven session lengths are common.
A good physio beats a mediocre osteopath. You're hiring the practitioner, not the title.
Answered.
40 minutes. Full history, full assessment, treatment in the same session. You leave with a clear explanation of what I found and a plan.
